This
is Aladar, a very special African Grey. Aladar has joined our family a
little more than a year ago. Right from the egg, we adopted him with open arms.
Many nights I stayed up hand feeding him and cleaning up after his clumsy
self.
Now he is sixteen months and I can't remember a time without him. He is such a joy.
He can say a few words like, "Hello", "Puppy Puppy", "Hey You", "Ber Ber"
(Blues Clues), "Pretty Bird", and his newest, "Peekaboo." Everything he says
has a particular whistle to it too. So if he wants us to say something, he
will do that whistle, for instance, the sexy whistle, we would say, "Pretty
Bird." He mimics a lot of sounds around the house like the TV cable box
clicking, the phone and our ADT alarm!
Some of Aladar's favorite foods are corn on the cob, mixed vegetables, birdie
bread, beans, and when he gets a chance, he will dip into my coffee when I am
not looking.
Aladar is quick to tell us when he needs attention. We all may be in the
kitchen and hear a peep peep sound, the kids will look up and say, "Aladar's
coming!" Having five children in the house at all times begging for attention,
he has learned to do the same.
I look forward to at least 50 more years of enjoying Aladar's company. My kids
will move out one day, but Aladar and I will always be pals!
