Kacey
is a special needs tiel. She couldn't figure out how to fly when she was
very young and her clutch mates picked on her and wouldn't let her eat. The
breeder had to pull her and hand feed her. When Kacey did try to fly, she
went backwards and ended up landing on her tail breaking all her tail
feathers. Since she couldn't be sold she was given to me, as the breeder knew
I would give her a loving and caring home.
Kacey broke her right wing at age 1 1/2 and it took six months to heal. We found
out she had a calcium problem and weak bones. The vet was wonderful, her wing
was saved from amputation but she will never be able to try to fly. She can
use it to keep her balance just in case she decides to try and fly which she
does.
Kacey is mostly independent but will be affectionate late in the evening. She
loves to nap while sitting on you but her favorite pastime is eating. If she
sees you with food, she is there and she wants it. She isn't much of a toy
playing bird, although she has plenty. She does have some small foot toys that
she loves to toss about. She is becoming her own bird again as she was
attached to our male 'tiel Maxi who died in March at age 17 1/2 years. She
mourned him for quite some time, but she is now getting back to being her
cheery, spunky little self.
Kacey is a sweet lovable but stubborn tiel, and we love her with all our hearts.
