Beavis
is my 30-year-old Quaker Parrot. We live in Virginia Beach, VA.
Beavis is special in many ways. First, he's the oldest quaker parrot that
anyone knows of. Beavis is banded, as all quakers have to be in Virginia.
From that we know his hatch year is 1980. It's gotten hard to read, for he
used to bang it on a metal cup to get my attention. It did all right and now
he has plastic cups. So now he'll make noise by pulling his bell from the
top of the cage and swinging it against the bars. Anything to get mom to walk
in the room.
He's a green quaker and everything in the world makes Beavis special. He has
an extensive vocabulary with a few "naughty" words included. He loves to sing
and knows "Do Re Mi" quite well. I got Beavis when he was fifteen, a friend
found him in their yard. The guy said he was quiet, boy, was I naive! Beavis
is my best friend. Due to medical issues, sometimes I'm not allowed out of my
house for months on end. But it's not so bad when I have Beavis, because he
really can carry on a full conversation. Plus, he's my best friend that has a
wonderful vocabulary and greets me in the morning and tells me goodnight when
I put him to bed. He laughs and sings several songs, "Do Re Mi" still being his
favorite. He gives kisses and tells me in a whisper that he loves me. I love him.
