Danielle, the Pet of the Day
Name: Danielle
Age: Three months old
Gender: Female
Kind: Abyssinian Guinea Pig
Home: Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA

Danielle has been so very special to me since she was born on November 14, 2008. We had bred one of my boys, Danny, to two females at a local breeder. I fell in love with Danielle, also known as DJ (Danny Junior) because she was the mirror image of her daddy. I've included a picture of them together, right after Danielle came home when she was a month old. Danielle's grown bigger since then, but she's still growing.

Two weeks ago, she surprised me with two beautiful babies! I didn't even know that she was pregnant, but immediately could tell who the father was, a male at the breeder's, by one of the baby's markings. Did you know guinea pigs can get pregnant (or make another guinea pig pregnant) before they reach four weeks of age? So what we thought just Danielle growing in size was actually her growing two babies as well!

I was so relieved to see that both babies were healthy when I found them, (they had been born in the middle of the night). Danielle has been such a good mom to them. It's so much fun to watch them grow up, they've already started to eat lettuce, carrots, hay, and grain! They're very vocal, just like Danielle, who I know got her big voice from Danny.

Danielle is special to me because of the happiness she's given me. If I have a bad day at school, coming home to see her and my seven other pigs always makes it better. I don't know what I would do without them. Each one makes me smile for different reasons, but Danielle is definitely the one who has brought the most surprises! Besides Danielle, I own her dad Danny, grandma Nana, (who was retired from breeding) half-sister Nina, Charlotte, Charmer, and of course, the two babies.
