||Sixteen years old|
||North Carolina, USA|
a horse was a dream of mine since I was very young. Unfortunately,
I was 58 years old before I took the plunge to fulfill that dream but it
was the right time because I found Mac.
Mac is a large horse, 17 hands tall and he weighs 1,600 pounds. We think
he's a Belgian and Appaloosa cross. He seems to realize his strength and
is very careful when around people, particularly me.
Since Mac is my only horse, I make a point of going to the pasture often
during the day to visit with him as I don't want him to get lonely. When
he sees me, he'll mosey on over to me and gives me a hug by placing his
head on my chest and letting me rub his ears. He follows me around like a
puppy dog, being very nosey about anything else that gets my attention.
In the almost five years that I've owned Mac, he has taken me to some
wonderful places that I wouldn't have seen without him. He has brought so
much to my life and I love him so very much. He is truly a "gentle giant."
Mac and I have been together for five years now. We don't go riding on the
trails as often as we used to, not because of him but because of me...
I'm getting old. The joy he gives me and the calm I feel when around him -
whether I'm grooming him, just talking to him, or riding around my place -
is such a reward for me. I am truly blessed to have Mac in my life.
