Elliot
was hatched on March 27th of 2008. She picked me out, rather than
me picking her, from a local bird store during summer of last year.
When I was visiting the store one day and standing inside an aviary
there, she flew over and skimmed off my head, then landed on a perch
near me and turned her head upside down asking to be scratched. That was
that; I immediately knew I had to have this bird, rather than an Amazon,
which I had originally planned on purchasing.
More than anything else, Elliot loves to eat. She would eat all day,
anything not nailed down, if I let her! Her very favorite foods are eggs
and pizza (pizza we give in moderation) but thankfully she enjoys
health-conscious eating as well. She gets carrots, broccoli, sprouts,
peas, green beans, pasta, palm nut oil (a healthy yet expensive addition
to a Grey's diet, which I just recently learned-it is what they eat in
the wild) spinach, apples, etc etc. Too much to name, although her main
food always in her dish is Harrison's pellets and she adores them.
Elliot is proving to be an excellent talker as well. They say Greys
often don't learn to speak until a year old, but she began fairly early.
She now says I love you, hello, hi, lay down! (to our dogs) my name,
wow, uh-oh, and go poop, among some other things. Some words are not yet
clear but she is making quick progress. She also loves to wolf-whistle,
and likes to do the first part of the whistle, then waits for me to
answer her with the second. We also take showers together a few times a
week; she sits on her shower perch, and then on the bathroom sink
afterwards and watches me put on my makeup.
Elliot is the best pet, so smart and affectionate, and although she is a
lot of work I can't imagine life without her now.
