Athena
is a very lucky hamster. She gets her own little hats to wear!
Whenever a holiday is coming up, I make her a hat that's appropriate for
the holiday, usually out of paper. Then, I take her out and take a
picture of her. Whenever I make holiday cards on the computer, I always
include the picture on the front. Then, I send the card to my friends.
Everyone loves the pictures of Athena in her hats. So far, I've made a
leprechaun hat for St. Patrick's Day, a pair of bunny ears for Easter,
the Uncle Sam's hat for July 4th, a witch's hat for Halloween, a Santa
hat for Christmas, a party hat for birthdays, and a graduation cap for
graduates. Athena puts up with wearing the hats, and her pictures look
great. She is very patient; she puts up with being positioned and
repositioned for the camera, and she even puts up with wearing the silly
hats. Here, of course, she is the Easter Bunny!
Athena is very gentle and she never bites anyone. She also loves people
and loves being around them. Whenever someone passes by her cage, she
comes to the front of the cage, puts her front paws up on the bars, and
looks at them.
Whenever I have friends over, we like to build obstacle courses for
Athena. Going through a course is probably her favorite game. We use her
various toys in the courses, as well as a large number of used tissue
boxes that I've been collecting for her. I remove the plastic from an
empty tissue box and cut a hole opposite of the hole that's already
there. This makes a straight tunnel. I can put two or more tissue boxes
together to make a longer tunnel. Sometimes I make corners or three-ways
to make the course more interesting. Athena really likes playing in the
tissue boxes, and she loves the mazes that I build for her. I would
recommend that all hamster owners try recycling their tissue boxes this
way. It's easy, fun, and best of all, it's going to a good use.
