Blossom
is a three year old Araucana chicken who lays beautiful blue/green
eggs. When she was about one month old she was attacked by a red tailed
hawk which we scared away. She was fine after two weeks of love and care
by mom. She lives with her seven sisters in our former green house. The
"Wild Chicks," as we call them, have such amazing personalities each one
is different. Blossom loves attention. In the winter they get hot
breakfast with oatmeal, peas and corn. and have free range of their yard
in the blue spruce and aspen trees. Bugs don't stand a chance with her on
guard. She has laid probably 300 eggs for us. The chickens all, under her
leadership, get along with their horse brothers and sisters. Her dog
brothers and the cats are scared to death of them. (She leads the others
and they chase them like they are little Velociraptors). She must know
they could be predators or something. She does okay when it snows as long
as we clear a little pathway to the trees.
