Alexis
is a great and energetic guinea pig, but she hasn't always been
that way. When she was born, she was the runt. She was weak and grew
ill. We didn't know what to do, since she wasn't healing. When it came
time for her to be sold, we worried. We finally did send her to the pet
store to be with her sisters, thinking maybe she missed them and would
do better being with them. When we came to check on her again the next
day, she had bite marks on her ears and sat in the corner. We worried
until we finally decided to talk to the owner of the store. He said we
couldn't have her without buying her for $20, which frustrated me. But
we ended up buying her back. She actually began on the road to recovery
right away. She got better slowly. This picture is from when she was two
months old. And at just two months old, she went to her first guinea pig
show, where she brought home a Best of Breed. This shows a pet store pig
can accomplish things if you never give up. She much bigger now, of course!
Alexis is a very spectacular pig now. She has become a wonderful pet.
One strange thing is she fears the piano. Whenever played, she runs
around and wheeks until stopped. She then is scooped up and falls asleep
in my lap. She lays in her cuddle cup and curls up purring. I pet her
slowly and lay her back into her huge cage. When night comes she
awakens again and is filled with energy. She popcorns around and wheeks
her loudest, and I think about how glad I am we rescued her.
