In
my school class we read Gullivers Travels. When my family went to
L.A., we got two turtles and I named mine Gulliver since I found out when
we went to the beach that he likes to walk and 'travel' as I called it. He
likes to walk around in the grass in the back yard here at home, though at
the end he seems glad to go back in his tank to cool down in the water. It
gets hot in Nevada, even for a turtle. He does have a lamp for his tank
and a place to climb up and dry off in the tank, but he like being able to
walk around better than just sitting on a rock. And maybe to the bugs in
the yard, he seems like a giant, just like the Gulliver in the book does
to the little people. He is still kind of small, but he is only a year
old. Turtles aren't like dogs, that are full grown at a year old - he will
keep growing for a long time.
Some people think turtles don't have a persoanlity, but Gulliver does. He
sticks his head way out when I talk to him, so I know he is listening. If
he is in his tank when I come in the room, he will splash to let me know
he is hungry and wants his food now! And the way he walks when exploring
the yard, you just know he is curious. He is a great pet.
