Rex
7 is special to me because he is the seventh in a long line of
hamsters I have owned since second grade. I am in my senior year of high
school now and love the little guy. He is my first full-sized hamster,
Rex 1-6 were all dwarf hamsters. He loves to smudge his face against the
glass of his cage and never fails to amuse me when he does so. I hope
you find him as cute as I do.
Rex can be very introverted. There is a part of his cage that is
connected to the rest of it by a tunnel. He has managed to literally
stuff the little house full of bedding and burrow himself in there with
a stash of food. Sometimes I get worried he's going to eat his entire
stash and won't be able to fit his bottom out of the tunnel! However
when he does come out (mostly when he feels like smudging his face
again) he is so sweet. He has not bitten anyone since the second day we
had him, and even then it was probably my own fault for wanting to hold
him before he felt safe. He will sniff your hand if he smells food on it,
but never bites... worst thing that will happen is that he'll lick your
finger.
Rex does not know many tricks. One of my favorite games to play with him
however is "staring contest." Since Rex is located in my kitchen area
there will sometimes be a large sound, this startles Rex and he will
stand up and stay perfectly still. Right after the noise, I will turn to
him and have a staring contest. He always wins. Rex is a talented nest
builder, eater, stare-er, and sleeper. He may not have practical skills,
but he makes up for it in love. He is a sweetie-pie and I feel so blessed
to have him as my pet.
