This
is Sunniva (Sunni for short...Brat for shorter). She turned three
years on August 2, 2008. My wife and I first met Sunni when she and her
brother were eggs. We'd make the trip from the San Francisco Bay Area
to my wife's mother's home in Orville California. She's a breeder and
had a couple of macaws getting friendly. As the time when on, we'd
visit and Sunni went from being a small lump of nothing no bigger than
my little finger to a chirping and honking chick the size of a Cornish
game hen. In fact, before we settled on a name I called her Corny much
to the vocal disapproval of wife, mother in law and sister in law. When
we were finally able to bring the little feather butt home with us,
Sunni was the size of a small pigeon and was able to walk.
After several months, as her feathers replaced her downy fluff, Sunni
started to experiment with flight. Once airborne, nothing in the house
was safe from her curious mind. We've hung various ropes around the
house but her favorite is the one in the picture. She spends hours
swinging on this rope that sits in a short hallway between our living
room and the kitchen. Everybody who passes her must pay the "troll" a
toll of what ever we may be eating or at the very least, a rub on the head.
Sunniva rules the roost at home. She's our little princess and we are
looking forward to many many more years of her special magic. By the
way, for those curious about her name, it's Old English and means Sun
Gift. She certainly has been a gift to our family.
