This
is Millie. She is a six-month-old fancy mouse. When I went to the
pet store to buy her, she was the first one there that I noticed. I
loved the way she looked at me, and I knew right away that she would be
perfect.
When I took her home with her sister, Kuna, she was a little bit shy at
first. But we soon fixed that. She quickly learned to trust me, and
walk on my hand. It took her a while to learn that she can't try to eat
me, but it was ok. She loves it when I gave her fresh fruit or
vegetables, including watermelon. She likes meeting new people and
running around outside her cage. When I let her outside, she plays and
runs around, but then when I carry her back to her cage and close the
door, she gives me those same eyes that she did in the pet store. She
puts her nose right up against the wires and gives a tiny
little "squeak!"
Although I know that mice don't live for very long, I also know that
some day when I wake up without my little Millie, waiting for me at the
cage door, my heart will be broken. She is my little treasure.
