Miley, the Pet of the Day
Name: Miley
Age: Four years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Abyssinian Guinea Pig
Home: Laurens, South Carolina, USA

Miley came to live with me at the age of two, along with one brother named Kelton and a wife named Shelby, after their previous owner died. Four months after he moved to his new home, his wife gave birth to five babies, so there were eight guinea pigs all in one cage! We decided to give the babies away, and found them all good homes.

Then a couple weeks later, my sister found a guinea pig in an abandoned house and asked me if I wanted it and of course I said yes. So Miley's second Brother Chance came to live with him in December of 2006, what we didn't know at the time was Shelby was Pregnant again, and on January 13th, 2007, she gave birth to six more babies so once again there were ten Guinea pigs all in one cage! After a couple of weeks of trying to find homes for the babies I came in contact with a pet shop owner who said he'd take all the babies and Shelby. I didn't really want to get rid of Shelby but I knew if I didn't she would keep having babies, so I took her and her babies and gave them to their new owner.

So then it was just the three boys. Miley, Kelton, and Chance. They got along really well, which some think is surprising. They were The Three Amigos of the guinea pig world until August 22, 2007, when Chance went to Rainbow Bridge. We never knew how old Chance was, since he had been abandoned.

It was now just Miley and Kelton. They ate together, played together, and slept snuggled closely to each other. They only fought over which one would get the biggest piece of carrot or Lettuce, but even their fights were more like playing. They truly were inseparable, but on December 28th, I found Kelton dead only an hour after I had checked on them. He seemed fine at the time, but an hour later he was gone. I was shocked, I don't know what caused him to die.

So now it's just Miley and me. He misses his brother, but I try to make him as happy as possible, I even put one of my stuffed animals in with him so he would have a snuggle buddy, I take him out and brush him and let him play on the floor. He loves to eat carrots, Lettuce, tomatos, apples and celery. He is adjusting well to his new conditions and once it gets warmer he will be getting a bath and get to go outside to play, which he always likes.
