Here's
my little Roka! Roka del Rio, officially, which is Spanish for
River Rock. He is an Eastern River Cooter, "pseudemys c. concinna" is the
Latin name. When I first met Roka he was at the top of a pyramid made of
his siblings. He jumped off his tower of baby turtles into the water
(sending a few of his brethren into the water, too!) when he saw me
coming. He started trying to swim through the glass! I knew at once Roka
was the turtle for me!
He lives peacefully in a 30 gallon tank with some fish. Roka has never
made any hungry move towards the fish, he prefers to dine on fresh
veggies and pellets.
He spends most of his time foraging for food at the bottom of his tank,
pushing rocks around, and trying to woo his "girlfriend", the plastic
tortoise. Here's a movie of that!
He loves to be let out and likes to roam around, chasing me and my dog
everywhere!
Some people say that reptiles have no feelings. They'll change their
mind once they meet my little Roka!
