This
is Chacha, my Maximillian pionus parrot. I have had him for two and
a half years and I love him to bits. He is spoilt rotten, loves to eat
when he sees me eating and has a real passion for asparagus and roast
potatoes.
I have wanted a parrot all my life and it took over 40 years before I
got one. Hope he'll be with me for a long time to come.
We live in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, UK. Although parrots are not
always easy to come by I was lucky to have been able to buy him locally
from someone I know who provided us with a lot of support after Chacha
moved in.
He's a typical maxi pi - quite independant, mostly happy with his own
company but also very attached to me. He wants me on his terms - he
doesn't want to sit on my arm but he wants me to sit by his cage. He
goes crazy when my husband comes home from work and shouts for attention
from me. He will try and bite anyone who comes near his cage except for
me and my youngest daughter who knows no fear and loves him almost as
much as I do.
When he wants something - particularly if he sees we are eating roast
potatoes, he makes a pathetic almost bleating sound. My husband and I
have always had dogs and we are fairly strict with them - no titbits, no
treats between meals and certainly never, ever, anything from our
plates. But Chacha just starts with his sad baby bird voice and
everyone is fighting to give him a piece of potatoe. He starts begging
for a piece of my toast and my husband, who is stricter than anyone
where the dogs are concerned, starts saying how cruel I am not to give
him some.
I have not taught him any tricks at all but he has taught me plenty!
He doesn't say anything except for "what? what? what?" when I uncover
his cage. Also he barks: he has exactly the same yap as my Patterdale
Terrier and it is a horrible sound!
