I
bought Rasta Bubs for $3.50 at a vegetable market in Belize City. I
don't know if he was being sold as a pet or food, but I thought he was
the cutest baby ever. The salesman told me to take any rabbit besides
Bubba because he was "trouble". I was a Peace Corps volunteer at the
time and up for a challenging rabbit. I didn't know I'd fall in love
with the bunny and end up paying a fortune to fly him around the world
with me instead of leaving him in Belize with a friend, which was my
original plan.
Bubba is nothing like the rabbits I had as a child. He uses a litterbox
(most of the time), lives in the house, and is not afraid of dogs. He
will go head to head with his little 85 pound boxer brother. He gets
along with dogs, but not other rabbits.
Bubba has a mind of his own and doesn't believe rabbits should be
vegetarian- I learned this when he jumped on the table and stole chicken
wings and ate the meat and the bones. Bubs loves to be petted, but isn't
much of a cuddler. He prefers to wedge himself between the refrigerator
and the cabinets and take a nap. Every few hours he'll jump on the bed
or couch, lick you to let you know he's o.k., and then go about his
business.
Rasta Bubs is currently staying in Pittsburgh with his aunt because the
most recent trip to Belize was by road and he prefers to fly. We miss him
dearly and can't wait to have him back.
