Bean, the Pet of the Day
Name: Bean
Age: Five months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Dwarf Lop-eared Rabbit
Home: Southend on Sea, Essex, England

My baby rabbit is called Bean. He's a dwarf lop-eared rabbit. After 23 years of living with my family, I decided, to move into my own flat around the corner. At first I was happy with my new independence, but pretty soon I started to get very lonely. After a hard day's work at a primary school where I teach, I wasn't coming home to anyone, or able to tell anyone about my day. I've grown up with pets - fish, rabbits and our beloved dog Sally who passed away a few months ago.

I remembered how much joy a rabbit can bring to people, and decided to buy one impulsively. I took my sister and her fiancee with me, and as we went inside, I said that I was only going to splash out if there was a boy, lop-eared, honey and white rabbit. I can be quite picky about how my pets look! When we went in, there was only one rabbit for sale - and it was white and honey colored, with speckles of brown and black. My sister whispered in my ear 'is that the one?!' and we laughed at how accurate my "wanted rabbit" description was. When the man working there confirmed that yes, it was a boy, we bought everything he needed there and then and I bought him home.

I decided to call him Bean because of something my sister, my brother, and I used to watch with my grandparents when we were kids. My grandparents had a really old tape of a show they recorded off the tv for us - it was the Muppets' Easter Bunny Special by Jim Henson, and we used to watch it all the time at their house. It was something we all really enjoyed and we used to imitate the voices! One of the characters, a small rabbit, (the cutest may i add) was called Bean. It fit perfectly with my new pet, and its a really cute name for my baby!

By nature, Bean is frisky, inquisitive, jumpy, always hungry! and very lively. He loves carrots and apples best, and twirling around when I let him out for a run in the garden. He greets me when i come in every day by running up to his cage. He also doesn't lie down - he flops loudly! He lets me know when he needs more food by thumping his huge feet on the cage floor!

He has bought me so much joy and happiness. He's a great companion for me - and the perfect man! He loves a cuddle, will listen to my day and always be there when I need him - any young girl's dreamboat! He's the best!
