About Us
Cinder, the Pet of the Day
Name: Cinder
Age: Ten years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Pied Cockatiel
Home: Dover, New Hampshire, USA

Cinder was given to us as a rescue, one year ago. She had been kept in an outdoor flight cage, with wild birds, and was badly picked on and beaten up. Her leg was dislocated and broken, and never treated, leaving it badly deformed. Her crest was also almost completely pulled out. And she had several sinus infections, that went untreated, causing her to have chronic sinus issues and enlarged nares. Cinder arrived in our home scared and untame, but after a few months of working with her, she has become a beautiful, healthy, happy and sweet little pet. We had her bad leg amputated, for her safety and comfort, and she seemed to know we were doing it to help her. She is so much happier now, and seems so much more comfortable. She plays with toys and eats anything you put in front of her. She isn't crazy about handling, but will allow me to pick her up without biting. She loves to go in the shower, and to sit on top of her cage, in her wicker basket. She has adapted wonderfully to having only one leg, and is a daily inspiration, because of her determination and strong spirit. Cinder is a very special little girl, and a gift that truly keeps on giving!
