Here
is my bird, Loki. Loki is a Maximillian Pionus who joined my
family in 2001. He is very social and always wants to know what's going
on and where everyone is. It's always a pleasure to come home and hear
his cheery "hello." He has learned many phrases such as pretty Loki,
Loki Poki, Hi Baby, Hey Buddy, Whatayadoin', and Go Navy! He also likes
to make sneezing noises to try to get attention when we're not in the
room. Recently, since we moved in to a new place and there are new
neighbors and noises, Loki has begun to bark. Yes, bark like a small
dog. It's very funny.
Before owning Loki, I never thought birds had any personality. Little
did I know each one has its own personality and can be as affectionate
as a dog. Loki likes to sit with us on the couch and have his head
scratched and rubbed all the time.
Loki is special because he is a strong little bird. He's lived in six
different places with me in the last six years. We have moved from the
North on the East Coast, to the Mid-Atlantic, to the West Coast. Each
time, Loki has toughed it out, made new friends, and adapted to a new environment.
