Hello!
My name is Peregrine T. Parrotlet, but everyone calls me Pippin,
Pipster, or Pipsqueak. I came to live with my family when I was five
weeks old and had just been weaned from hand feedings to millet. For a
very little bird, I have a huge appetite. I've never met a fruit
or vegetable I didn't like, but my favorites are strawberries, cherry
tomatoes, and zucchini. When I'm not eating (which is my favorite thing
to do), I love climbing all over my cage, playing with my toys, and
practicing my birdie chatter.
My mom keeps hoping I'll start talking soon, but I just don't have
anything important to say yet. In the meantime, I can do a great
imitation of the beeping sound the microwave makes, and I've learned to
chirp just like the birds do outside my window.
My big news, though, is that I have a girlfriend!! She's a beautiful
orange and blue swing that my mom made for me. I wiggleneck for her and
do some of my best acrobatics to impress her. Since I started courting
her a couple of weeks ago, I haven't been too interested in leaving my
cage to play with Mom and Dad. Once in a while though, I'll come out
just to make Mom happy. This picture was taken on one of those outings
when I came out to play "drop the spoon" on the kitchen counter. I love
the sound it makes.
I love music and will usually stop whatever I'm doing when I hear it
start to play. My favorite song is Brahm's Lullaby. My mom plays it for
me every night at 8:00 when it's time to go to sleep. I know when I hear
that song, it's time to climb into my cozy nest or onto my favorite
perch, do a little preening, then wait for the cover to go on the cage
and to hear Mom say "G'night little bird."
