Here
our handsome boy Chewie, who's also affectionately known
as "The Big Guy" or "Mr. C." Truly a giant among guinea pigs, Chewie
tops - and fills - the scale at 3 pounds, 13 ounces! Our veterinarian
has assured us that Chewie is not fat; he just has a very large frame
and his weight fits him well. Chewie is not a couch potato; he likes to
run around the perimeter of his cage as well as up and down the sofa
when it's playtime or cage-cleaning time. We have even seen him hop up
on top of his pigloo a time or two.
There is hardly a fruit or green vegetable that Chewie doesn't like,
except for grapes. Chewie is also very fond of his guinea pig pellets,
hay, and Oxbow Hay Company's Critical Care nutrition supplement. He
won't admit it, but Chewie likes to be brushed while eating his Critical
Care treat from the syringe. Chewie is so fond of Critical Care that he
almost gets whiplash when he hears us unscrew the canister lid every
night!
In April, we discovered that underneath his orange flowing locks, Chewie
had a nasty-looking skin growth on his rear, which our vet surgically
removed. Thankfully, the growth was benign, and Chewie was up and around
right after surgery, looking for something to eat! Shortly after coming
home, Chewie realized that he had lost his hair "skirt", so he was a
little shy about his nakedness. His beautiful orange fur has grown back
now, and Chewie is as handsome as ever!
