Bartell, the Pet of the Day
Name: Bartell
Age: Three months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Lop Rabbit
Home: Vidalia, Louisiana, USA

This is Bartell, our pet rabbit. He is a very special friend of our family. He has an amazing personality and is just a beautiful and gentle creature.

I have never owned a rabbit before, so his personality is just amazing to me. I'd have never guessed that a rabbit would be this intelligent or posses such an array of human-like emotions. First off, he lives in our home. I was opposed to this idea at first, but my wife found a lot of info on the net that said that rabbits could be house trained, so we decided to give it a shot and much to my surprise it was amazingly easy to house train him. Once inside our home, his personality just unleashed itself and we all fell in love with the little fellow.

He is usually in a good frolicky mood and will do these little crazy bunny hops that look sorta like a bull does when he bucks. he quickly learned which cabinet his food was kept in and then learned to open the cabinets. we keep carrots in the fridge as treats for him and if he is in the opposite end of the house and hears that carrot drawer open he will come hopping just as fast as he can. If you scold him for something, he will get mad and ignore you for half the day. He possesses every bit as much personality and intelligence as any dog I have ever owned.

As far as tricks go, well he is three months old and I guess the only trick he has learned so far is the one he taught himself about opening cabinet doors to get to his pellets, but I have no doubt that he is fully able to learn and perform tricks. he is just so young that we haven't had time to teach him yet.

He is very affectionate. He loves to be held, his ears rubbed, belly rubbed, and such. He will hop up in your lap on the couch and put his head under your hand wantin' his head scratched. He does not like to be ignored and will not stand for it. He is a little independent in that he likes to be the one thats decides when to be affectionate or just go sleep at the end of the couch by himself. And he will get mad if you try to decide for him.
