Einstein
was born in Florida and lives in Scotch Plains, NJ with his
human companions and nine other birds. Einstein and I met at a Parrot
Sanctuary where he was put up for adoption by a family who could no
longer care for him. He had been living in Connecticut. Einstein
(Steinman as he is affectionately called) loves to cuddle and be in the
middle of whatever is going on. He loves to laugh (he learned this
somewhere in his travels) and to make noises--He whistles, imitates the
microwave beeps, the garbage truck backing up (Beep! Beep! Beep!),
zipper sounds, squeaky doors, other bird calls, jungle sounds (he
learned from his parents), and he talks a little too. He meows every
morning and purrs when cuddling (Senegal Parrots naturally purr, but the
meowing he learned). About two years ago he pulled the dial off of the
kitchen stove (another story altogether what he was doing there) and
despite diligent efforts to find it, it wasn't to be found. Recently,
while packing to move, we found the silly thing--he somehow hid it under
the refrigerator. Einstein is allowed to fly around the house out of his
cage under supervision. He loves to fly. The picture above was taken
when he was caught in the act of pushing an empty candle holder off the
windowsill. He is a mischievous little guy. He enjoys eating grapes
(with pits), pasta, and fig newtons, which he dunks before eating. His
other nickname is "little duck" as he loves taking a shower so much that
he often doesn't want to come out of the water. He is a very special
bird and much loved by his flock and family.
