About Us
Scamper, the Pet of the Day
Name: Scamper
Age: Nine months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Sheltie Guinea Pig
Home: Chepstow, UK

Scamper has very long hair, you can hardly see his eyes! He is very special because he is intelligent and funny, but most of all he's a brilliant friend.

Scamper does do a trick, here it is. Well, when he is up and about on the kitchen floor, he can go on his hind legs and put his front paws on a chair leg! His favorite game is tug of war with a dandelion leaf! I go at one end and hold the dandelion, and Scamper goes at the other and holds it with his teeth and I tug a tiny bit to form a little tug of war! He is very independent indeed because when I open his hutch door he comes out onto the kitchen floor, and at exactly the right time and he can also climb into his hutch on his own.

When Scamper first came to live with us he was exceedingly shy. When you opened his hutch door he would scamper straight into his bedroom - this is why we gave him his name!

Now I would describe him as nosey, confident and cheeky. If he hears the rustle of a paper bag he squeaks so loudly you can hear him upstairs in our house! He knows the rustle sound could mean food as dad buys special bags of mixed leaves for him that are not too spicy! When I take him out to cuddle he sits quietly and lets me groom him I can't say he likes it but rather he puts up with it maybe he knows how handsome he looks when he is groomed! As he is a sheltie guinea pig he has very long hair and I bath him about once a fortnight. Again I can't say he likes it but he does go along with it for a while until he gets completely fed up and tries to jump out of the washing bowl before all the conditioner has been rinsed out.

I hope this gives you a good picture of my dear little friend, I am so proud to be his friend!
