This
is Floyd the Monk Parrot (also known as a Quaker Parrot). Floyd
came to me when I worked at an animal hospital. Someone dropped him off
because they found him in the street with two broken legs. We'll never
know what happened, or where he came from, but he underwent some
surgery to help his legs heal properly.
After lots of care and hand-feeding, Floyd recovered from his injuries
and turned out to be a hearty bird full of life. He loves to hang upside
down (you would never guess he had leg injuries), he greets visitor with
a loud and clear "hello" or an equally loud and clear "bye-bye" and
occasionally he'll make "raspberry" noises at you when you walk by his
cage. He loves to eat Cheerios, bananas and butternut squash. Floyd also
makes monthly visits to a bird center so visitors can meet him and learn
more about birds like himself. He just loves being around people!! He
also loves to listen to the radio, and is teaching my two lovebirds how
to whistle as well. He's quite a special bird!
