Poe, the Pet of the Day
Name: Poe
Age: Sixteen months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Siamese Rat
Home: Meriden, Connecticut, USA

This is my Seal Point Siamese rat, Poetic Tragedy. I just call him Poe. Poe shares his cage with two other rats. My Himalayan, Solace and my Agouti hooded Lennox. When I adopted Poe he was severely abused and shied away from any human contact. He wouldn't take any food from my hand and ran from me. After placing him in the cage with my other two boys he's opened up slightly. He now comes to the cage doors and he takes food from me. Since he was abused he still is very scared of touch. He shies away from my hands and sometimes bites. Poe lived a very painful life. I feel that he's over come a lot for such a small animal. From abuse to neglect to just abandonment. I feel lucky to have Poe in my life. He's so special and different from my other five rats. He's the only rat that has ever fallen asleep in my lap. He loves to brux and boggle as I pet him.

In January I had to put to sleep my beloved Isabella. My first rat. Bella was a rescue, like Poe. I feel that Bella sent me to rescue Poe from dying alone. I think she knew that, like her, all Poe needed was a second chance at life. I am so happy that I was the one who gave Poe that second chance. He may be the one I rescue, but I'll be the one he saves.
