Peaches
is one of
fifteen parrots that share my life. Although I also have a wonderful
Umbrella (eighteen years old) and a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo (almost six),
Peaches is by far the cuddliest parrot I've ever seen. He is gentle
enough to be placed in a carriage with a baby and has never bitten.
Peaches likes to eat his 'messy' foods, such as cantaloupe, with a fork.
I know that Cockatoos require a lot of time and attention. They do,
however make up for that by providing an unconditional love in return
for yours.
Peaches is extremely affectionate and will cuddle against your chest
whenever given the opportunity. He loves to do sit-ups with us; we hold
his feet and lower him, back toward the floor. We'll say "do sit-ups,
Peaches" and he will drop his head down and then bring it up for each
sit-up. Everyone loves to watch him do his exercises.
Peaches, although loveable, can be mischievous too. He can remove nuts
and bolts from anything, no matter how much we tighten them with a
screwdriver. He has managed to open the cage doors for the other birds
by just removing the nuts and bolts. Peaches' cage is a snap together,
without any nuts or bolts, for that reason.
He is a wonderful addition to our family and loves to play with
children's toys more than any parrot toys we purchase for him. He eats
his messy foods, like cantaloupe, with a fork so he doesn't get his feet
wet. His favorite thing to do right now is play with an ice cube. It
doesn't seem to matter that his tongue or foot get cold; he loves that
ice cube!
