Mandalay
was a foundling at the local Humane Society when I first saw
her eight months ago. She was homeless and needed foster care as the shelter
has no room for a 10 foot snake. We have been inseparable since then and
I officially adopted her last month.
Mandalay and I are very active in the community. We visit schools to
teach children the importance of pet care and wildlife. Mandalay is also
a big hit at local summer festivals where we lead seminars to dispel the
fear of snakes and other reptiles. She is also training to take the test
to become a registered therapy animal.
Mandalay is an extremely curious girl. She is constantly exploring. The
best thing about her is "Jeopardy time". We always sit together during
the Jeopardy TV show. As the time gets closer she gets excited and
patiently waits to come out. As soon as I open the door to her enclosure
she slides up over my shoulders. I don't even need to pick her up
anymore. I sit on the couch and she curls up in my lap.
I never thought I would have a large snake in my home, but Mandalay has
changed everything.
