Harley
is a seven-month-old PMU foal. That means he was born at a farm
that collects pregnant mare's urine in order to make the hormone
replacement drug called Premarin. Unfortunately 20,000 of these foals
are born every year. I adopted him through a rescue type group who
tries to help these foals, as thousands of them end up in feed lots and
are slaughtered for horsemeat which is exported to France and Belgium.
He is a Quarter Horse but does not have any registration papers. When
he first arrived he was very frightened. He had never been handled by
people before. It was amazing to watch his transformation. He is a
kind and very sweet colt who loves to be brushed and will follow you
around the pasture for an extra scratch behind the ear. He learns
quickly and has adapted to domestic life in northeast Pennsylvania well.
He loves carrots and horse cookies. Our family is so happy that we
have him. He is loved and fortunately will never know what his fate
could have been. He is home now.
