About Us
Missy Lockie, the Pet of the Day
Name: Missy Lockie
Age: Unknown
Gender: Female
Kind: Slender-Billed Conure
Home: Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

My husband and I adopted Missy Lockie through Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary in Surrey, BC. I volunteer at Greyhaven so I get to see all the wonderful birds that come to the shelter. Lockie is the third bird we have adopted from Greyhaven.

We don't know how old Lockie is as her former owner got her from the SPCA six years ago. She came to Greyhaven very overweight and in extremely poor feather condition due to a bad diet. Her owners loved her very much but did not know what was an appropriate diet for her. The only green feathers she had on her body were on her head and her tummy only had down feathers. Within four months of being on a good diet which included Harrison's pellets, she looked like this photo. Now, another 4 months after this photo was taken, she is even more beautiful and is down to a good weight after losing 50 grams.

We had only planned on fostering Lockie until we found a good adoptive home for her but she totally bonded to my husband within a very short period of time and we couldn't help falling in love with her so she is now a permanent part of our family. Missy Lockie is such a very sweet and gentle natured bird and we absolutely adore her. She is quite a rare bird in Canada so that makes her even more special. She attracts quite a lot of attention when she is out with us as no one has ever seen a Slender-Billed Conure before and they are quite unique looking.

Lockie shares her home with Charlie a Nanday Conure, Frankie a Lovebird (that were also adopted from Greyhaven), a Sun Conure named Pepper and Lori, a Dusky Lory, that we are fostering for Greyhaven. If you are looking to add a feathered friend to your family, please consider a rescue sanctuary. You may find little treasures like Missy Lockie, Charlie, Frankie and Lori just waiting for you to take them home.
