||Six months old|
||Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada|
came into my life a little after Christmas time last year. My
parents divorced three and half years ago. The fighting and threat for
divorce started on November 4th, my 15th birthday. December 11th, 2001,
is when it all happened. I lost my cats and my dog because of it.
I moved away to live with my mom, while my two brothers and sister went
to live with my dad. So, I lost them too. Since the divorce, I have
moved five times and gone to five different schools in a little over a year.
Where I live now, pets are not allowed, like cats and dogs. Actually, no
pets were allowed at all whatsoever. But we were friends with the
landlord, so he bent the rules for us. I was asking my mom for months,
if I could have some sort of soft cuddly pet, besides the two birds I
already had. I love them to death, but they never wanted you to cuddle
them. I was very lonely, being without my siblings, and no friends. My
little sister, Krista, had gotten a hamster before me, which made me
feel even worse, because she never had to ask, she just received it.
A few days after Christmas, on December 27th, we went to a pet store, so
she could buy her Hamster a new cage. I went over to look at the
Hamsters, and there she was. Alone in a cage of glass, sleeping under
the shavings. My sister decided she was going to buy her for me, and my
mom gave up and said yes. Krista gave me the old cage she had her
Hamster in, so it made it easier for me. The pet store lady took her
out, we bought her, and went home. I had no idea what to name her, so I
started thinking of names from cartoons. My favorite cartoon is
Inu-Yasha, and one of the characters in that show is a little fox demon,
named Shippo. I did not think Shippo was a little demon, the name just
seemed to fit her.
Since I got her, she's gone everywhere and does everything with me.
She's my best friend, someone I have to hold, she makes me feel better,
telling me it's gonna be okay and the worst is over. It was like she was
in that cage all alone, because she was waiting to be picked out by me.
I know this story may not seem that special, but Shippo holds a very
special place in my heart. She was there for me when I needed a friend,
and taught me that life isn't always bad, and she also gave me the
courage to tackle my newest school, and make new friends (now I have so
many!). She just seems to know when something is wrong, and when I need
a cuddle. I have more pets now, another hamster, and a rabbit. But
Shippo will forever be, my most beloved friend.
