Sadie
came to us from an abusive home early last year. Her previous
owner did not want her anymore because she bit really hard and drew
blood and would never let anyone handle her. Well, come to find out, the
culprit for her behavior was a teenaged boy who teased and tormented her
and a Boxer dog that barked at her nonstop. I was asked, since I already
had two birds, if I would want her because she was "not wanted anymore"
and being the kind person that I was said yes. To make one more unkind
gesture to Sadie, she was brought over in her cage uncovered in the
freezing rain and snow. She was a very sick little girl for several
weeks but she finally came through.
Within a few days and a wing trim later, Sadie cooled down and
discovered she liked coming out her cage and sitting on my shoulder and
in the window watching the wild birds at the bird feeder. For a
cockatiel she has a wide variety of vocal abilities, her best impression
is that of a Cardinal which gets all the red birds excited when they
hear her call... we fondly call her out little "Red Bird". She has
never forgotten her past, once the lady that gave her away came by to
visit her, and Sadie struck at her in vengeance. She has never acted
this way towards my husband and we are glad we were able to provide her
with such a safe and secure home where she is loved and cared for. Since
my husband and I were married in May, she has become "Daddy's Girl" and
allows him to do things for her that she will not allow me to do, such
as picking the wax off her new feathers after she molts. In any case,
she is still a very loving animal that is thriving in a loving
environment and we love Sadie - and all of our kiddos very much.
