Maru
came to live with me about one and a half years ago. She's a
constant source of love and affection. Her favorite activities include
sitting contently on a shoulder of a favorite person, whistling while
she hears the gentle strumming of a guitar, eating safflower seeds,
sliced apple, sliced oranges, peanuts, and eating whatever she can get
her little beak on. As you can tell from the photo, Maru, which means
round in Japanese (marui), is a bit of a round bird.
Maru also enjoys hanging out with her buddy Squirt, another
White-bellied Caique. They spend hours wrestling at the bottom of their
cage with one another... it's undeniably the cutest thing in the world.
Maru has brought so much love and companionship to Squirt and myself. I
think she's a great pet, besides being awfully cute and photogenic!
