In
September of 2003 I was told that my mom's friend's friend had horses
and that they needed exercise so we began to lease them. Then a few
weeks later I found out that she was getting another horse. When he
came, he was named Troy after my placid, friendly, smart and
logical best friend, but Troy didn't exactly have those qualities, or so
we thought. As the weeks passed, we thought it was hopeless. Troy would
spook and go galloping off (with you still on him). When we tried to
catch him, he would turn in circles 'till we let go then galloped off bucking.
More weeks passed, and then it was like Troy had an epiphany...
he was supposed to listen and behave, in an instant he was getting
his canter leads right and he would listen at the touch or a rein.
Although he still sometimes spooks at silly things, he has never tried
to gallop off since. Now he's a pony hunter in training, and boy is he
great!!! He follows us around nowhere ever we go and he cuddles us when
ever he can. He always get his leads and he loves jumping. He now lives
in a pasture with four other horses (all girls) where we ride him every
day, and he's still young! I think Troy thinks he's in heaven!
Troy is very special to me and my family just because he is so loyal,
and he really us all. But what really makes him special is the fact that
he improved so quickly. Even though he was a barrel racer, he learned
all the English movements even though he had no idea what he was doing,
and he always trusted us! Troy is most definitely one in a million!
