I
found Dixie in a local pet store the week of Easter, I was just
stopping in to see the bunnies. The sales person told me that Dixie was
in a separate cage from everyone else because she just had a stroke.
The people they got her from allowed her to have five litters in one year,
causing the stroke. When I first saw her she was partially crippled in
her back legs. I wanted to take her home as I have another guinea pig as
well as three rabbits. I couldn't take her just then since I was leaving for
Europe for a few weeks. As soon as I returned from my trip, I called
the pet store and she was still there so I raced over to pick her up.
By the time I got her, her legs were much better. Now she's been with
me for about six weeks and she's doing great. She has a slight head tilt
(side effect from the stroke) but other than that you would never know
anything was wrong with her. She's adjusting nicely and is starting to
play with the others. We are very happy to have her as an addition to
our family.
