About Us
Spencer, the Pet of the Day
Name: Spencer
Age: Eleven months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Russian Dwarf Hamster
Home: Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

Spencer was rescued from a dirty, overcrowded pet shop last September. His eyes were bright and he was excited to finally get the loving home that he deserved. We went through a few difficult months as we, his human parents, learned that he needed his space and took his territory very seriously. Let's just say he had lots of practice biting! However, he mellowed out with age and we quickly reached a state of peace. Spencer does not bother hoarding his food like an average hamster. He's just, lazy and doesn't bother hiding it because he knows right where it is. He is also very sensitive to smell. If you smell like other hamsters, he spends the first minutes out of his "apartment" sniffing and licking your fingers. Spencer absolutely loves chinchilla dust and bathes regularly in it. We think he just likes to make a mess. He loves any type of treat except for Quaker Oats (which for some reason he does not consider food). He especially loves his hamster biscuits, frozen peas, bread, and cheese. Even though we had some hard times, Spencer is incredibly wonderful. He's always happy to see us and has a great deal of personality for a hamster. We'd just like to say that we love him very much!
