This
is King Babs, a 30-year-old American Quarter Horse. He was born
April 22, 1972. We got him when he was two years old. We started showing
him at age five and then retired him from the show ring at age ten. He is
such a pleasure to have, practically takes care of himself. He has ten
acres and a three stall barn all to himself and our three dogs here in
the North Texas area. He has been one of the greatest pleasures of our
lives. His face needed trimming when this picture was made so we
captioned it "I need a shave." He loves cats, but unfortunately we just
can't keep them because of the coyotes. We wish we could have him for
another 30 years.
His nickname is "Red" because of his deep sorrel color. He is very
affectionate and loves to be around people. He definitely has a sense of
humor. On his 30th birthday we gave him a party and had carrot cake.
When it came time to take his birthday picture he squared up and really
gave us a beautiful pose and then just when we got ready to snap the
picture he picked up his front foot. We told him to put it down, he did,
and then when we got ready to snap another picture he picked up a hind
foot. This went on for about ten minutes. We were all laughing so hard
we never did get a picture with all four feet on the ground. He is a
character. He doesn't know how to do any tricks but has always been
willing to try anything we tried to teach him, including pulling a cart.
He loves to be groomed and will stand for hours to be brushed, clipped,
bathed, anything we want. He loves attention. For the past 28 years he
has been just a member of the family.
