Bailey
is special because he is the light in my life and an extremely
lucky bird. Right before I got Bailey, I was having a very difficult
time with some painful life issues and felt pretty lonely. I did not own
any pets and noticed my church pastor's passion in breeding cockatiels
and the happiness they provided her. I took one off her hands at six
weeks (very young) and we immediately attached. He was almost like a
permanent fixture on my shoulder - always keeping each other company.
Several weeks later, while I was moving Bailey got away from me -
clipped wings and all. He did not get far and we were calling for each
other. Right as I saw him walking to me, the neighbors cat nabbed him
and dragged him away. My heart broke in two and I thought I would never
see him again. Luckily, a neighbor heard Bailey scream (and probably my
scream), and between the two of us we were able to get Bailey away from
the cat. We rushed him to the vet and did have to give him several shots
over a period of time, but he came through without any major puncture
wounds, or broken bones.
That was three months ago and he has fully recovered. He takes showers
with me three times a week and yells "HEY???" when he knows I am in
there without him. His favorite songs are Lets Go Out to the Ball game
and Andy Griffith. Some of his favorite words are "Awwk!
Chickenhawk!," "Here Kitty Kitty...MEOW! Baaaad Kitty", "What are you
doing, huh?" and "Hello!" His favorite food as you can see is macaroni
and cheese.
