This
is my hamster Fudge. We've had him for months now and he is by far
the most easily scared hamster I've ever had. However when he is willing
to come out of his cage, he looks very cute, as you can see there.
When we moved overseas, I had to give up my hamsters Pumpkin (Pet of
the Day, August 13, 2001) and Ruby. I still think of them quite often,
especially of outgoing Pumpkin.
Fudge is special because he meant that we were living in a place for
more than a few months. I had to wait a while to get a hamster because
we were moving so often. I hope that he stays with us until the end.
Now that we've had Fudge for almost five months, his personality hasn't
changed that much, except that he's gotten a lot bigger, a lot lazier,
and if possible, a lot more scared. He stops in his wheel whenever we
catch him running at night. It takes him at least five minutes to go
down the stairs because he has to stop and check if anyone's around at
every step. We are able to hold him now, but he's definitely he's
definitely a more independent type and is content just to be a boarder
here.
Besides running on his wheel, he also likes to strip his honey stick
bare. He could strip a stick bare in one afternoon if he puts his mind
to it. In addition, he's very interested in the activities of our other
male hamster Biscuit. If Biscuit is up and running, Fudge would usually
perk up and investigate.
Despite his reclusive nature, Fudge is still much loved and indulged by
us. Probably a bit too indulged, he's gained a bit of weight from the
treats he's been getting :). Back to just plain hamster feed for him for a while.
