This
is my special little girl, Mazie Mae. She's almost seven years old at
this point. She's a sable ferret that I bought and raised in Atlanta,
Georgia, and then brought with me to live in Munich, Germany. She's an
international traveller! Miss Mae is special because she's such a
trooper. About 6 months ago, she had some sort of stroke and had to go
through all sorts of organ biopsies, ultrasounds, etc. to rule out any
of the normal North American ferret diseases (apparently they are a lot
more prevalent in North America than in Europe). She was such a sweetie
throughout the whole ordeal that the emergency technicians fell in love
with her. The stroke has made her blind, but it's amazing how well she's
adapted. She knows where things are in the house and really uses her
ears and nose to navigate her way around. Until you try to give her a
treat and realize she can't figure out where you put it on the floor,
you hardly realize she is blind at all. Mazie is a real Steel Magnolia!
I call this photo "The Mazie Lounge". It's amazing what positions the
little booger can twist herself into... and fall into a deep sleep.
