Sweetie, the Pet of the Day
Name: Sweetie
Age: Unknown
Gender: Female
Kind: Sky Blue Opaline Budgie
Home: Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, USA

Sweetie's a rescue bird. She was rescued, literally, from the trash. Her previous owners decided that because she was "mean" that they didn't want her, and put her out to freeze overnight. They were abusive to her too, and when she came to me she was terrified of hands. They also fed her(infrequently) a large parrot seed mix, so it was impossible for her to eat most of what was given to her. Her water bowl, food bowl, and perches were encrusted with feces as well. However, they told me I could take her if I wanted her since they didn't like her... so I took her! They were correct about her being a biter, but given that they'd throw things at her cage and hit her cage for fun, it's no wonder she would bite. After even the first night it was easy to tell she was a sweet little bird who really did have a desire to be friendly and loved. It only took two weeks of working with her before she was more than willing to step onto your hand and play with people. She still doesn't like people going near the food dishes, or putting hands up to the cage bars, but overall she really does live up to her name. She's a sweet little bird who got a second chance, a loving home, and recently (after a proper quarantine and introduction period) the companionship of two other budgies.
