I
had been doing my homework researching about the different parrot
breeds and their most common traits. I seemed to prefer the African
Grey because of their somewhat independent personality and
intelligence. In March I was hospitalized for acute renal failure, and
after I left the hospital I knew I was ready for my African Grey. I
was looking at reputable breeders, and when I walked to the fish shop,
The store owner told me a little eight-year-old girl had turned in her
Cockatoo, Macaw and African Grey because her parents were divorcing,
and she moved with her Dad to an apartment complex that did not
allowed parrots.
I looked at the mischievous and scared eyes of the African Grey who
was the only one left, came home and told my partner, then five minutes
later we were back and buying Chilo. He is so special because he
whistles at my fifteen-year-old schnauzer Benji. When Benji comes near,
thinking it's me, he says, "Good Dog". That really makes my day! He
also loves chili peppers and he yells "Jalapeno!" Spanish for pepper.
