My
pets are Pete and Willie - six-week-old Milking Shorthorn bull
calves. We live in Strafford, New Hampshire and we belong to the
Yankee Teamsters 4-H working steer club. I got these calves as a
Christmas present, and I will be training them to work in a yoke. They
are very cute, as you can see, and they love to follow me around. We
bring them outside in the snow and they run around, chasing each other
and kicking with their tails straight up in the air. They are a lot of
fun!
Pete and Willie are not twins, they have the same father but different
moms. Pete is a couple days younger, bigger, and very curious. He
watches everything with his head turned to one side, like he's
listening and learning. Willie is sweet and easy-going, his little
horns are already starting to grow, you can feel the nubs. When we go
sliding in the snow the calves come running behind, chasing us down
the hill! Willie weighs about 150 pounds and Pete is even bigger.
