My
name is Maya. My owner Saul tells me that my name was chosen in
reference to the group of Native Americans who built a great
civilization in southern Mexico and Latin America known as the "Mayans".
I'm a brown and beige "Teddy" Guinea Pig. I live in a large homemade
cage with my new best buddy "Ginger". She is much younger than me so
it's my responsibility to watch out for her and show her the ropes.
During the day you can find me munching on sweet hay, eating crunchy
pellets, sipping cool tasty water (which is flavored with Tang so I get
my daily vitamin C) and napping in my snuggle bag which was hand made by
my owners Aunt Pat. I'll wheek, oink and squeal when I'm hungry or just
in need of a treat. Lettuce, spinach, carrots, and grapes are my
favorite! After a long satisfying dinner my other owner Lily will
carefully brushes my coat. I love the attention and will often make a
purring sound so she knows I'm happy and relaxed.
Sometimes loud noises scare me. Like when rude neighbors play their car
stereos to loud. I'll squeal and then look for a place to hide. When
this happens my owner always rubs my back to make me feel safe and
secure. If I'm lucky I even get a small treat like a yogurt drop! I
soon forget what scared me and then get back to some good quality
chewing time.
If I'm feeling energetic and excited I'll run and jump straight into the
air while wiggling my bottom and making a chirping noise. My owner
tells me it's called "popcorning". It's my way of saying thank you for
making me one very happy and loved Guinea Pig! Well, thank you for
spending a typical day with me. I have to get going now. I think I
heard the spinach bag rattle from the kitchen. Supper must be on the way
and I don't want to be late! wheek! wheek!! wheek!!!
