This
is Jasper. He is one of six members of our growing rat family. He is
an adult male hairless rat. He is not a true hairless, as he does have
some scraggly little white hairs on his body and really curly little
white whiskers. We rescued Jasper from a local pet store that decided
not to carry hairless rats anymore as they do not sell very well in this
area. He was to be snake food within a short while. I couldn't let that
happen!! When we first held Jasper, he chattered and carried on and
liked to be held on our shoulders. The trip home made him nervous and it
took him awhile to come back around to the sweet Jasper we first met.
But he is wonderful and confident, now. His cage mate doesn't know what
to make of him, sometimes, but they get along for the most part. He gets
cold and shivers a lot, so I take time to create little sweaters out of
old socks to keep him warm.
He is very special to me as he is the only hairless I own, extremely
sweet and, in my eyes, one of the most adorable little boys I have ever
seen. I don't ever let anyone tell him he is "ugly" or "yucky", because,
despite his appearance, he is an angel at heart.
