Dixie
is special to me because she is my best friend! We went to
millions of shows in the year 2000 and eventually bonded. We had a lot
of good times together, but also some very sad tragedies. When we
bought Dixie, she was going to be my laid-back gaming horse. But,
after my horse Shawno bowed a tendon, Dixie had to replace her in the
pleasure line of work. We worked and worked all summer long, and
eventually practice paid off. At the County Fair, we placed 2nd in the
State Fair Line-up and qualified for state.
About seven weeks before the state fair, Dixie got a little cut on her
leg, which was scarred from a past accident. We thought nothing of it
and put a bandage on to keep it clean and keep off dust and bugs. At
the NRSC show we went to, she was being a little snotty and I didn't
know why. But soon we would find out... At four weeks before the state
fair, Dixie's leg literally exploded. It turns out that infection was
building up under the skin from the first cut. The infection finally
had to get out and that caused the explosion. My mom later found Dixie
in the pasture walking around with her bloody leg. We thought for sure
that Dixie would not be able to be shown at state.
After three weeks of careful bandaging and care, Dixie was well enough to
go to state! As it turns out, Dixie has had a great year at state and
is now a happy little mare belonging to my youngest brother. She is
one lucky horse!
