Spike
is a wonderful hedgehog. He is a little shy, but once you pick
him up he is very friendly. His favorite thing to do is run around and
investigate in his exercise ball. He also loves to investigate in his
small animal pen and cage. His favorite foods are canned crickets and
mealworms. His favorite toy is any toilet paper tube. A year ago, I
was a Teacher's Assistant in St. Louis, Missouri. Spike came to school
with me on Groundhog's Day, which originally was Hedgehog Day before
it came to America. The kids had never seen a real hedgehog before and
were extremely excited. I taught them about hedgehogs and they got to
watch him play in his exercise ball, eat, and even got to pet him. He
loved it there and was even more friendly than usual. I think it was
all the attention! When I get a full time teaching position and a
classroom of my own, I hope to take him to school more often.
