About Us
Maxine, the Pet of the Day
Name: Maxine
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Ferret
Home: Vernon Hills, Illinois, USA

Maxine (Max for short) came to me through a co-worker. The co-worker told me that his father, Jim Urganus, had found a ferret in a plastic bag in a dumpster in an alleyway on the north side of Chicago, Illinois. He found out from neighbors that a family had moved out and did not want to take the ferret with them, so they threw it in the dumpster. Mr. Urganus then took care of Max for about three weeks while I learned everything I could about owning a ferret. I took Max straight to a vet and she turned out to be very healthy. Max, along with two other ferrets I have since adopted, have total freedom in my condo. They have a lot of fun chasing each other and teasing my three cats. Max, being a typical ferret, likes to steal any remote control she finds plus anything else that she wants. She's taught me to be more organized than I have ever been before. She also likes to wake me up by nipping my toes under the covers. She is now a very happy ferret. Her nickname is "Pycho fert", as she does the ferret "dance of joy" so often. I found out that Mr. Urganus has now adopted a dog he found as a stray. I wish there were more people like him around. His single act of kindness helped three ferrets find a good home with me and let me find out how much fun ferrets are to own.
