Nemo
was given to us by the local Parrot store owner because he wanted
Nemo to go to a good home. Nemo is what is considered a "special
needs" bird because he has no feet. You wouldn't know it by seeing
how he gets about though. His favorite past times are taking baths,
playing peek-a-boo, shredding tissues, and talking up a storm. Because
Nemo has no feet and just stubs it makes it difficult for him to do any
extensive tricks....but he loves to find dark places to hide and will
start yelling happily to let us know when he has found a new dark
"cave" to hide in. He also likes to climb under blankets. As
most Quakers are known for, we call him our "little green
chicken" because he squawks whenever we give him a new toy--but
after a few minutes he will be attacking it with fervor. I would have
to say his favorite game to play would be "gonna gitcha". His
human dad taught him that game when he was just a baby. We sneak our
hand up slowly and he will start saying "gonnnnnnnna gitcha"
and then we will "get him" by cupping our hand over his head
and body and giving him a gentle shake at which point he will say
"gotcha!". He also loves to play peekaboo which he learned as
a baby in the bird store. Cover him up with a tissue or towel or just
hiding behind our hand and popping up will have him saying
"Wherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre's Nemo?" "PEEKABOO!" Also,
because of his Quaker gene pool, he is rather territorial and feisty. He
does not like to snuggle. However right after his bath time - which he
also loves, he is mellow and sweet. That's when he spends time with me,
his mommy, and we groom together. Since he can't reach the feathers on
his head or neck because of the "no feet" situation he needs
help with grooming those. So after bath time is when we sit down and
fix those feathers for him. This house would definitely not be the same
without our little Nemo. He has his own little personality and we would
not have it any other way. He is only a little more than one year old but
has already woven his way deep into our hearts. Many people ask us why
we took on a "handicapped" bird...and we just ask
them..."what handicap?" :o) We love our little green chicken!
